Jelcz 043 is a Polish, intercity, tourist bus, which was presented for the first time in 1958. Its serial production was carried out in the years 1959-1986 and took place in Zakłady Samochodowe Jelcz. Popularly, due to its elongated and oval shape, it was called a "cucumber", like another tourist bus - Jelcz 014.
Jelcz 043 was developed on the basis of the license of the Czechoslovakian Skoda 706 RTO bus. Interestingly, despite the successful tests carried out in the 1950s, the Polish bus based on the Żubr A80 truck, they were abandoned in favor of Jelcz 043. It was made of chassis supplied entirely from Czechoslovakia, on which the Jelcz plants were assembled bodywork. As in the Jelcz 014 and 021 buses, the Skoda 706RT diesel engine, 160 HP with direct fuel injection, imported from Czechoslovakia, was also used as the drive. The bus could carry from 42 to 52 seated passengers. A modernized version was also created, marked as Jelcz 044, which externally was very similar to Jelcz 043, but had a completely different power unit with higher maximum power and a gearbox.
