After the end of the Crimean War in 1856, the British Army took part in many smaller or larger colonial military conflicts, including the suppression of the Sipaya uprising (1857-1858), the conflict in Sudan that ended with the Battle of Omdurman ( 1898) or the First and Second Boer Wars (1880-1881 and 1899-1902). All these conflicts had a significant impact on the British Army, as well as forced significant changes in the British field artillery. Even before the outbreak of the Crimean War (1853-1856), British artillery was divided into two corps: Royal Artillery (responsible for foot and heavy artillery) and Royal Horse Artillery (responsible for horse artillery). Significant changes in British artillery took place after the Crimean War and as a result of Cardwell and Childers reforms, i.e. mainly in the 1960s and 1980s. XIX century. During the Crimean War (1855), artillery was directly subordinated to the War Office. The conditions of recruitment and service have also been changed, as well as The period of regular service was shortened (from 21 to 12 years). Huge changes also began to take place in the equipment, as rifled guns were introduced in the 1960s. Shortly before the outbreak of the Second Boer War (1896), threaded howitzers with a large barrel lift angle were also introduced. As in other types of weapons, also in artillery, significant changes took place after the end of the Second Boer War.
