Dupuy de Lome was a French armored cruiser from the late 19th century. The vessel was launched in October 1890, and in 1895 the vessel was accepted into service with the French Marine Nationale. Its length at the time of launching was 114 m and a width of 15.7 meters. The displacement reached about 6,300 tons and the maximum speed - about 20 knots. The armament included, among others: 2 cannons of 194 mm, 6 cannons of 164 mm and 4 cannons of 65 mm. Dupuy de Lome at the Brest shipyard, France. At the time of launching, the unit was extremely avant-garde and is widely recognized as the first fully mature armored cruiser in the history of the navy. The Dupuy de Lome had full side armor in the surface part, the main armament in the form of long-barreled cannons placed in rotating turrets, as well as the complete lack of auxiliary sails. At the end of the nineteenth century, these three features were completely new on units of this and similar classes, and aroused a kind of sensation. Interestingly, this avant-garde ship was never used in combat and in 1911 it was withdrawn from the French Navy to serve later under the Peruvian and Belgian flags. The unit was decommissioned in 1920.
