During the revolutionary wars (1792-1799) and - especially - in the Napoleonic period (1799-1815), France probably had the most efficient war machine on the Old Continent, which almost led to its lasting hegemony over Europe. It will be a truism to say that the key element of this machine was the French army. In the same army, from June 1811, there were regiments of Cheval Legers Lanciers. They were formed from six regiments of dragoons already existing in the Grand Army, and their creation was influenced by the French experience gained during the battles with Austrian lancers, Russian Cossacks, but also by the achievements of Polish lancers and cavalrymen at Tudela (1808) and Somosierra (1808). The basic armament of the cavalrymen-lancers was a lance 2.65 meters long to which a pennant in the colors of the regiment was pinned. Added to this was a saber and a cavalry pistol. Each company also had 10 soldiers armed with cavalry rifles. In 1813 the regiment of cavalrymen-lancers numbered from 4 to 8 companies, and each company consisted of about 125 people. Lancers regiments took part in the campaigns of 1812-1815.
