French 11th Hussars Regiment (fr. 11e Regiment de Hussards ) was formed in June 1793, from soldiers formerly part of the 24th Szaser Regiment, but also from other cavalry units previously functioning in the French army. The unit took a very active part in the revolutionary wars of France (1792-1799), fighting in a number of battles, e.g. in the Battle of Friedberg in 1796, but also taking part in suppressing the royalist uprising in the Vendée. The unit stood out especially during the Battle of Marengo in 1800. Despite this, in 1803, the 11th Hussar Regiment was transformed into a regiment of dragoons, and another formation with such a name was established in the French army only in 1810. This "new" 11th Hussar Regiment took an active part in the Russian campaign, where it suffered - like the entire Grand Army - huge losses. Despite this, he still fought in Germany in 1813, fighting in battles at Hanau and at Leipzig. The unit was disbanded in 1814 during the restoration of the Bourbons.
