ORP Batory was built in the Modlińska Shipyard for the needs of the Polish Border Guard and until 1939 it served as a unit to combat sea smuggling, as well as guarding Polish sea fisheries against foreign fishing boats. In August 1939, he was mobilized to the Navy and took an active part in the September campaign in defense of Hel. The unit, along with its crew, made history by a daring escape to Sweden on the night of October 1-2, 1939. The unit was interned there and survived until the end of the war. In 1947, the unit returned to service in the Polish Border Guard, which it served until 1957. Currently, ORP Batory serves as a museum exhibit.
