The Macchi MC 202 is an Italian single-seat fighter plane with a metal structure, in a low wing configuration with a classic tail from the Second World War. The drive unit was the Alfa Romeo RA1000 RC41-1 Monsone engine with a capacity of 1175KM, which is a license version of the German DB-601A engine. Macchi planes formed the backbone of the fighter aviation of Fascist Italy. They fought over Greece, North Africa and Russia. The history of the MC 200 Saetta fighter and its successor MC 202 Folgore began in 1935, when a team of designers led by Eng. Marco Castoldiego began conceptual work on a new, modern fighter plane with a retractable landing gear, an in-flight propeller and a covered cabin. The project called C (Castoldi) 200 was completed the same year. Under the influence of the requirements of the Ministerio dell'Aeronautico specification presented in the spring of the following year, the design was modified by increasing the number of weapons, increasing the flight range and introducing corrections to improve the climbing parameters and maneuverability. Mass production began in the fall of 1938 and was completed 4 years later - after the production of a total of 1,153 airframes - in August 1942. Technical data: length: 8.85m, wingspan: 10.58m, height: 3.03m, maximum speed: 600km / h, rate of climb: 18m / s, maximum range: 756km, maximum ceiling 11000m, armament: fixed - 2 12.7mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns, 2 7.7mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns, underslung - up to 150 kg of bombs.
