The British Army during the War of Independence of the USA (1775-1783) became convinced of the need to form light infantry units that would be able to fight in a dispersed formation. The formation of such units began relatively quickly, which resulted in the creation of such regiments as 43, 51 or 52. However, with some exceptions, the British light infantry gave way to the French. These exceptions are primarily the 60th and 95th Infantry Regiment. It is worth adding that during the campaign on the Iberian British light infantry was formed in the so-called The Light Division, which in 1813 consisted of five battalions of about 3300 people. It is worth noting that already in 1797, in some units of British light infantry, Baker rifles began to appear, which were characterized by excellent accuracy, but the loading process was longer than that of a smooth-barreled rifle. British light infantry, despite its imperfections, performed well during the campaign on the Iberian and the campaign of 1815.
