War chariots in the armies of ancient Egypt appeared on a larger scale, probably in the 16th century BC, in the Hyksos people who brought them to the Nile. War chariots were used with great success in the New Kingdom, i.e. in the years around 1550 to around 1070 BC. It is worth adding, however, that chariots as such were used in Egypt earlier (i.e. before the 16th century BC), but mainly for transport, not combat purposes. The Egyptian war chariots of the New Kingdom were characterized primarily by a relatively light but durable structure, they also had spoked wheels. Probably the crew of a single chariot consisted of 2-3 soldiers, one of whom drove the chariot, and the other soldiers used throwing weapons - mainly a bow and a javelin. It is assumed that most often the Egyptian war chariot was drawn by two horses. On the battlefield, it was the chariots that started the battle, and they were supposed to use the success or breakthrough created by the troops of their own infantry. Due to the high speed and mobility on flat terrain, they were also used in the pursuit of the enemy. Undoubtedly, war chariots were used by Pharaoh Ramses II in the Battle of Kadesh around 1300 BC.
